Tips for Timeless

French Country Decor

You, like many may get tired of them quickly and often waiting for new design trends around the corner - quite literally because their constantly happening.

Timeless decor is so perfectly classic that it looks just as good today as it did 10 years ago.

FUNCTIONAL AND FABULOUS

All of your seating furniture should be the most comfortable that you can find. Because more often than not, you'll have these pieces for at least 20 years. These pieces should also have a timeless style, other than slipcovered furniture.

Also, make sure that each piece of furniture is well constructed with wonderful time honored fabrics. You could certainly keep time honored fabrics to just side arm chairs.

KEEP TRENDY COLORS AND PATTERNS FOR ACCENTS

Use gorgeous decorative pillows for pops of color throughout your home. Not just for the sofa or bed, but also if you have deep seated dining chairs, considering using bolster pillows.

An area rug could be a pop of trendy color with all of their delicious patterns.

CHANGE PILLOWS AND THROWS TO REFLECT THE SEASON AND MOOD

Think of using lighter fabrics, possibly some with some motifs others with heavy organic texture. Neutrals are perfect with touches of color here and there.

During the cold months, it's nothing but comfort - warm and snuggly.. Large cable knit throws and decorative pillows that you can just cuddle into.

NEUTRALS ARE THE PERFECT ELEMENTS OF TIMELESS DECOR

A calming and soothing bedroom with white and pale grey. An all white bath with antique gold accessories. Barely white walls in your living room with cream color fabric on classic pieces. Your kitchen done in all white with brushed steel accessories.

Think clean with subtle hints of muted color.

DON'T OVERCROWD A DECOR SPACE

There is nothing worse than a cluster of decor on a side table making it not useable for drinks, or a snack. Of stacks of stuff on the sides of your books in a bookcase.

Your decor should be well thought out before buying any. Think about the colors in the room and where you intend on putting them. You know you have a side table that is only so big. So buy one taller piece and two very small pieces to create a collection that's not overbearing.

BE DETAILED ORIENTED FOR A TIMELESS LOOK

Adding crown moulding throughout your home speaks nothing other than timeless. And the larger you can make you moulding by stacking it is even more timeless.

Gilded mirrors are another timeless piece that can be used all over your home. Think about doing a gallery in either your dining room or living room with antique gilded mirrors. Hang one over each of your night stands. Replace the one in your bathroom.

Crystal chandeliers, either antique or new are also something that's extremely timeless - going back hundreds of years ago.

If purchasing new one's, than you can lavish every room of your home with one.

Add full length draperies to your rooms. If you can, allow them to puddle on the floor.

BLEND OLD AND NEW

Create a gallery wall with photos all in the same style frame and same color for a simple, yet impactful look.

EDIT COLLECTIONS TO JUST A FEW

Remember the rule of 3? Well this is where it comes into play. Pull out all the decor you have and start grouping similar pieces into groups of 3's. Then once your done, you can take these groupings and place where you'd like.

CURATE YOUR LOOK

This means - forget about all the rules and things that you've read. Add pieces to your home that are truly you. For example an antique door just leaning against a wall. Add lots of greenery to every space in your home.

LIVE WITH WHAT YOU HAVE

This goes with Edit Collections to Just a Few. It's important to focus on what you have before running out to buy more things. Because some of your things could easily use a coat of paint to make new again.
